January 6th, 2016. - SETTING  SAIL FOR SCARBOROUGH


Polar Quest

Nicholas will set sail for Scarborough and the Coastival Festival in February 2016. Waterford's Street Spectacle company, Spraoi, have been invited to launch this year's festival with a spectacular street parade . Nicholas will be directing a cast of forty UK-based performers in a wonderful piece of street theatre inspired by Ernest Shackelton's most daring expedition entitled Endurance. September 1st, 2015. - RECORDING A NEW RADIO DRAMA

Shellakybooky

Nicholas spent today at WLR-fm studios recording Sue Healy's new radio drama entitled Shellakybooky. This witty, fast-paced drama is set in present day Hungary, with a mix of Hungarian and Irish characters. A tale of unrequited love, deceit and revolution. Nicholas voices the character of Géza, a Hungarian chauffeur. The drama is directed by Jim Nolan and stars; Jenni Ledwell, Michael Power, Clodagh Power, Andrew Holden, Emma Lemon and Kieran Walsh. Shellakybooky airs later this year.

It Only Ever Happens In The Movies

Nicholas is having a wonderful time working with County Carlow Youth Theatre for the first time. He is directing 14 of their young actors in a play entitled It Only Ever Happens In The Movies written by Mikel Murfi and John Taite. This play was originally produced by the National Youth Theatre in 2011 at The Peacock Theatre. NAYD kindly granted permission for County Carlow Youth Theatre to stage a production of the show. It opens on August 28th and runs for two nights. Why not book a ticket and come along to see what it's all about.

Angel

Nicholas began shooting today for a new dance-poetry film entitled 'Angel'. The film is directed and choreographed by Libby Seward of Animated State Dance Company. Libby has created this duet for the screen in response to a poem by Mark Roper entitled Angel. More updates coming soon.

The Valentino Brothers by MooCow Productions

"Love is in the air", that is, the Valentino Brothers are flying to Dublin City to celebrate the most passionate day of the year, February 14th, St. Valentine's Day.

The Valentinos are traveling lyric poets who spread love and affection with their eclectic songs and poems. Don't stand too close or you might be wooed by their wit and charm!


The Valentino Brothers is a new piece of Street Theatre created by MooCow Productions and performed by Nicholas Kavanagh and Robert Power.

'Matched' by Everyman Productions

Nicholas will be performing in Matched by Ger FitzGibbon at The Everyman Palace, Cork. Inspired by Chekhov's much loved one-act comedies The Bear and The Proposal, Matched is a light hearted and entertaining look at one woman's trials in trying to find a husband. Set in one of Ireland's Big Houses in the early part of the 20th century. Matched runs from January 14th -24th, 2015.

December 10th, 2014. - LITTLE LIGHT


Little Light by Monkeyshine Theatre Company

Created in 2014 by MonkeyShine Theatre Company for winter events around Dublin, Little Light was a true piece of 'street theatre’.

Nicholas played the part of one of four Storytellers who had just arrived back from the far North. Returning with a story about a brave little girl and her great adventure into the wilderness. Filled with snow caped mountains, noisy trolls and a search for the new years sun, this was a really beautiful experience for everyone complete with live music and song. Connecting its audience to age-old rhythm of the year.


MonkeyShine are hoping to bring this beautiful show on a nationwide tour in the Winter of 2015.

The Secret Garden

Nicholas spent the final two weeks of November working with Deirdre Dwyer of BrokenCrow Theatre Company on a works-in-progress entitled The Secret Garden. Deirdre is currently working on an adaptation of the well loved children's story, The Secret Garden, primarily aimed at children between 8 to 10 years old. Nicholas was brought on board as an actor-designer, aiding Deirdre in stage-adaption of this wonderful novel. The first week of the development saw Deirdre and Nicholas reduce the text down to a 35 minute working script. In the second week they were joined by two more actors, Mary-Lou McCarthy and Karen Kelleher. Through a combination of script and improvisation work the company created a 40 minute piece which they showed to a test audience at the SHOW festival at the Theatre Development Centre in Cork City. BrokenCrow aim to develop this piece further and to mount a nationwide tour in the Summer of 2015. Read more about the SHOW festival here.

Set Sail

Nicholas spent Culture Night 2014 at The Model in Sligo performing with the wonderful MonkeyShine Theatre Company. A fun and interactive performance, entitled The Upper Crust Bakery. The audience were treated to a tour of the beautifully ornate Liliputian bakery which was operating at full tilt.

Between Trees And Water

Nicholas is performing in Between Trees And Water by Fiona McKeown and Thomas Conway, a new play producded by Painted Bird Productions. The show runs from from the 9th - 14th September at the Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival 2014. Read more about the production here.

Nicholas is delighted to be invited by Waterford Youth Arts to give a voice workshop to the cast of their Summer production, The Crucible by Arthur Miller. The production will be performed at Garter Lane Arts Centre in August, and is directed by Waterford playwright and director Jim Nolan.

Enter Juliet

Nicholas is currently performing in Enter Juliet by Ronan FitzGibbon, a new play producded by BrokenCrow Theatre Company. The show runs from Mon June 30th - Sat July 5th at the Everyman Palace, Cork. Read more about the production here.
